Disney Adventure Review: An Honest Take From a Family Who Paid Full Price

There’s a great ship here. The execution isn’t there yet.

That’s the honest summary of the Disney Adventure after three nights on it. The hardware is beautiful, there’s a rollercoaster at sea, the shows are some of the best I’ve seen on a cruise, and Duffy and Friends finally have a home on a Disney ship. Then you get to the parts that involve the operation running it, and it falls apart in ways that a family paying full fare notices immediately.

The short sailing makes it worse. Three nights on a ship this big means you’re rushing through everything, and you’re doing that rushing inside an operation that’s still finding its footing. If you have the time, book a 3-night and 4-night back to back to get the full experience.

We sailed 3 nights out of Singapore in July 2026 with our three girls, paid full price for it, I LOVE all things Disney, and here’s my honest thoughts. If you’re curious how the Disney Adventure compares to the Disney Treasure, check out this comparison blog post.

Disney Adventure pricing for the same days next summer

Disney Adventure 2027 pricing 1 adult, 2 kids
Pricing for 1 adult, 2 children ages 9 and 9
Disney Adventure 2027 pricing 1 adult, 1 kid
Pricing for 1 adult, 1 child age 11

The 2027 pricing for the equivalent Monday-to-Thursday sailing runs $2,459 for a room of three and $1,892 for a room of two, both verandah, taxes and port fees included. That’s the closest current comp to what we booked.

How does a family of five book a Disney Adventure standard cabin?

You book two rooms. There’s no way around it for standard rooms.

Standard staterooms on the Disney Adventure sleep four. A queen bed and a queen fold-out couch, which works fine for a family of four and not at all for a family of five. The only single-room option that sleeps five or six is concierge, and concierge runs roughly double what we paid. For our sailing dates in 2027, a concierge verandah for five is about $8,202 against roughly $4,350 for two connecting verandah rooms.

So we booked two connecting verandah rooms. The kids in one, us in the other, door propped open between them the whole sailing.

I loved having the extra space and two bathrooms. We always had somewhere to put people who go to bed at different times and room to spread out.

One small thing I loved is that the connecting doors stayed open the whole time, but I put a stool in front of each one anyway. The girls slept in their room and we slept in ours, and I wanted to hear if anyone opened anything. Probably unnecessary, but makes me feel better.

What’s the arrival experience like?

The entrance onto the ship was the weakest part of the trip, and I’ve been clear about it since we got off the ship. But the overall arrival at the port was very efficient.

We arrived at the port around 10:45am for our 11:45am Port Arrival Time (PAT). We checked our luggage outside and made it through security by 11:06am. By 11:57am, we were boarding the ship!

Embarkation didn’t have the flow that Disney’s other ships have. The process felt unfinished in a way that’s hard to blame on any one thing, and for a family arriving after a long-haul flight into a brand-new ship, the first hour set a tone the rest of the sailing had to work against. There’s no music, bright lights, dozens of cast members greeting you when you board. It was maybe 4 castmembers in a dimly lit corner giving a mild “hello”. We actually thought we might have been in the wrong place.

I want to be fair about this as it’s a new ship in a new home port, and process problems are the kind of thing that eventually can get solved. So who knows! It might be way better by the time more people sail over the next few months.

Is 3 nights long enough on the Disney Adventure?

No, and this is one of my main criticisms of the sailing rather than the ship.

The Adventure is enormous. It fits 6,700 passengers, and by comparison all of the other Disney ships fit about 4,000. There’s more to do and see on it than we could get through, and a 3-night sailing means you’re rushing through spaces designed to be lingered in. We finished the trip feeling like we’d sampled the ship rather than sailed on it. We didn’t even have the chance to eat at any of the quick service dining options except for Pizza Planet. My husband is still dreaming about the Ohana burger he missed out on.

A lot of families around us had figured this out already and were doing a 3-night followed by a 4-night back-to-back. If I had the time, that’s the version I’d book. Same flights, same pre-cruise stay, and a full week on the ship instead of a long weekend. But we had other fun places to explore while all the way on the other side of the world from NY.

If a short sailing is all your calendar allows, it’s still worth doing. Just know going in that you’re going to leave things undone.

Should you add days in Singapore before the cruise?

Yes. We did two nights before boarding and I wouldn’t skip them. The reason is jet lag.

Flying into Singapore and boarding the same day means spending your first ship day recovering, which on a 3-night sailing is a third of your cruise. Two days on land first meant nobody needed a nap once we were on board. It also meant we saw Singapore, which is worth seeing on its own terms rather than treating as an airport with a cruise terminal attached.

What didn’t work?

A handful of things, and most of them come back to the same root cause that this is a new ship with a new crew, and the operation hasn’t caught up to the hardware yet.

You can’t book a party of five together, even in linked rooms

This was the single most frustrating part of the sailing, and it’s the thing I’d most want a family of five to know before they book.

We booked two connecting rooms since the ship had no standard rooms that slept five people. Our reservations were linked. And the booking system still wouldn’t let me reserve anything for all five of us at once.

That matters most for the bigger character experiences, which are booked in the app. I’d book for three, then tell the cast member at the meet that my oldest was taking my spot, because there was no option where I’d leave a kid out. Every single time. You also had to book these character meets every day between 4pm-5pm. They would drop randomly and I’d sit there for an hour refreshing trying to get a spot for at least 3 of us.

I raised it at guest services and there was no solution and no escalation path. The answer was literally that “this is how the ship works”. I’ll be honest, I teared up because I’d paid full fare for five people and spent three days doing workarounds to get my own kids into the same photo. This was so frustrating and quite honestly stressful. If I wanted to book things like this, I’d go to the parks.

If Disney fixes one thing on this ship, it should be this.

Dining service was thin

Our servers took orders and delivered food, and that was the extent of it. Nobody checked back during any meal across three nights.

I don’t think this was indifference. It felt like short staffing, and it’s consistent with everything else about a crew that’s still ramping up. But on a Disney ship, where the dining service is part of what you’re paying for, the gap is noticeable. By night two on the Disney Treasure, we had known all about our servers, their lives and families, and felt very connected with them from day 1.

The buffets aren’t actually the same

We were told Maximus and Olaf were “exactly the same” buffets. They’re not.

Maximus had a full buffet with a kids’ section. Olaf had no kids’ food section at all, which meant our girls had to leave, walk across the hallway, and get in line at a different buffet for the food they wanted. On a ship this size that’s a small thing, but it’s the kind of small thing that adds up over a short sailing.

The crew is still learning the ship

Across three days, we rarely got the same answer twice to the same question. Staff were friendly, but the magic that makes a Disney cruise feel effortless isn’t there yet.

I hope it will be different a year from now as they gain experience. We sailed in July 2026 and this was our experience.

What did the Disney Adventure get right?

Quite a lot, and I want to be fair about that after leading with a few critiques.

There’s a rollercoaster on the ship. An actual rollercoaster, at sea. The line was long and it was still worth doing. The other two rides were less impressive, but there was never a wait for those, so we rode them anyway.

The Avengers show. Best live show I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot of them. All five of us loved it.

The Remember show. Wall-E and Eve, in the big theater. It’s the thing from the sailing I keep thinking about.

Selfies at Sea. Characters on a stage, multiple families photographing at once. No single-family meet-and-greet lines snaking down a hallway. I thought that this was a smarter system than what the other ships do for my bigger kids, though I can see younger kids who want to hug all the characters being bothered by this set up.

Duffy and Friends. Duffy, ShellieMay, LinaBell, CookieAnn, Gelatoni, ‘Olu Mel, and StellaLou are enormous in the Asia Disney parks and completely absent from the Western ships. My girls have loved them for years and had never gotten to see them on a cruise. We also had one unplanned moment where Duffy and ‘Olu Mel got in the elevator with us on their way up to deck 10. No line, no photo package, just a normal elevator ride that turned into the kids’ favorite five minutes of the trip.

Palo brunch didn’t sell out. On most other ships, these brunches sell out quickly when the higher Castaway Club statuses can book. Also, on every other Disney ship, Palo is adults-only. On the Adventure, ages 10 and up can go. We did a Palo brunch at $55 a person while the girls went to the tween club and it was one of the best meals of the trip.

The Edge tween club, and the open house workaround. Edge is for older kids, but during open house times younger siblings can come in with a big sister or brother. Our 9.5-year-olds got to go with their 11-year-old sister, which is great if your kids straddle an age cutoff.

Ship-exclusive merchandise. I love all Disney merch, so I was happy with the fun things they had on this ship. This selection had things I couldn’t find anywhere else, and the long-sleeve princess dress options were the standout. Castaway Club members also got an inaugural sailing gift, which was a nice touch.

Who should book the Disney Adventure?

Book it if:

  • You can do the back-to-back, or you’re comfortable leaving things undone on a short sailing
  • You have kids in the 10 to 12 range who are aging into Palo and Edge
  • You’re already routing through Southeast Asia and can build 2 or 3 land days around it
  • You want a brand-new ship and you’re willing to be there while the operation is still finding its footing

Book something else if:

  • You’re a party of five
  • The daily app booking battles would ruin the trip for you.
  • You want the polished Disney embarkation experience you’ve had on the other ships
  • You’re flying a long way for 3 nights and nothing else
  • Your kids are all under 10, since two of the ship’s better features have age gates

What we’d do differently

Book the back-to-back sailings. That’s the only thing. Everything else about how we structured this trip worked, and the one thing I’d change is the number of nights.

Thinking about a Disney cruise? Cruise planning through me is complimentary. The cruise lines pay my commission, so you pay the same fare either way and I handle the booking, the timing, and everything after it.
