The Travel Keeper Guide to Planning Trips Around School Schedules

From school calendar to boarding pass.

Most airline calendars open about 11 months before departure. Enter your kids’ school break dates below and we’ll map the exact day flights go on sale, when to book lodging, and what to tackle between now and takeoff.

When each airline’s calendar opens.

If you must travel specific dates and are booking with points, be ready the day the calendar opens as premium award seats vanish fast. If you’re paying cash, the calendar opening is just day one of your watch window. The real sweet spot for cash fares is usually much closer in.

Paying cash? Breathe.

You don’t need to book the day the calendar opens.

For cash fares, the sweet spot is usually 1–3 months out for domestic trips and 2–8 months out for international. Booking on day one often gets you the highest price of the entire cycle, not the lowest.

Where this tool helps cash bookers: knowing when you can start watching. Set a price alert on Google Flights the day the calendar opens, then wait patiently for the drop.

Booking windows are based on commonly reported ranges and can change. Always verify directly with the airline before planning a specific release-day booking.
